Great New Developments for Embarcadero in 2018
Blog|by Leanne Bevan|27 February 2018
Embarcadero has announced new exciting features and enhancements planned for RAD Studio, Delphi and C++Builder this year.
Firstly, the third release of 10.2 Tokyo (10.2.3) is planned for release later this quarter; Embarcadero has three key themes with this release. The first consists of enhancements to the core visual frameworks where you will see better High DPI support for VCL and improved quality within FireMonkey (FMX). The second theme brings improvements to C++ capabilities which includes C++ Rename Refectoring and CMake command line support. And finally, Embarcadero is expanding RAD Server support for Ext JS. Below you’ll find some more details about the tools that you will be able to use in the upcoming 10.2.3 release.
A feature that has been requested for a long-time by C++Builder developers, C++ Rename Refactoring, enables you to right-click an identifier within your code to rename it throughout your project. This complex feature comprises of symbols, code structures and more, found in the core of a new C++ IDE tooling feature that stores an AST for your project. This feature runs within the background and currently provides information for both Refactoring and Find Preferences.
Support capabilities for the popular C++ build tool, CMake, includes support for Ninja that enables very fast parallel building. Those that want to easily build third party libraries without converting them to a C++Builder project, can do so as, through using compilers, the support builds CMake projects, such as projects with a CMakeLists.txt, on the command line.
Embarcadero has also continued to work on simplifying the development of a RAD Server backend for a Sencha EXT JS client. Last year, Sencha was acquired by Embarcadero’s parent company, Idera Inc. Sencha provides various enterprise web application capabilities. In Embarcadero’s 10.2 Release 2, a new FireDAC component for generating JSON is a format that’s suitable for a Sencha Ext JS client was released. In Release 3, you will be able to host HTML files as part of RAD Server and additional helper classes will be added – these features will make RAD Server easier to use as the backend for an EXT JS web application.
With Update Subscription, Embarcadero can release new features throughout the year rather than have a major release followed by quality fixes. Therefore, any features that miss one release are candidates for the next.
Also coming later this year, you will gain access to a collection of FireMonkey UI templates; these will help new users get started much faster. In addition, GUI templates for GetIt and a new RAD Server app template are on their way too.
Keep your eyes peeled on this blog for more information about these upcoming developments.
